Accredited Practising Dietitian with Personal Experience of Diabetes and Coeliac Disease
Marchini Nutrition is a dietitian service set up to help all those with or at risk of diabetes and coeliac disease. Based in Swansea between lake Macquarie and the Pacific Ocean, Marchini Nutrition is run by Sally Marchini, an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) who combines professional qualification with personal experience to give her a unique insight into the issues faced by people living with either or both of these potentially debilitating conditions.
Sally qualified as a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Newcastle and is an active member of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA), the Australian Diabetes Council and Coeliac Australia. But it is her personal experience that sets her apart from other local dietitians.
Sally was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a child, and has lived with the condition for more than three decades. Then in 2004 a routine blood test indicated low serum iron levels and a subsequent endoscopic biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of coeliac disease. Following this life-changing diagnosis, Sally’s quest for knowledge of nutrition and dietetics really took off with a passion to help others in similar circumstances.
Continuing improvements in medical science and increased awareness levels are increasingly allowing both diabetes and coeliac disease to be diagnosed and treated before serious complications develop. Recent statistical analysis shows that in the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie and lower Hunter region at least 6.5% of the general population are affected by diabetes, coeliac disease or both.
The mission of Marchini Nutrition is to guide people through the potentially daunting and confusing dietetic requirements for living with diabetes and/or coeliac disease. As Sally puts it: “My personalised consultations aim to empower people to make the most of life and to learn what new foods they can enjoy, rather than feeling that they’ll be missing out.”
